Discern and Obey

When Joseph woke up he did what the angel of the Lord had told him to do: he took his wife to his home.
Mt.1:24

Joseph has just been told in a dream of God's complete plan of salvation for the world through the baby in his betrothed's womb, a baby that was not his. He awakes and unquestioningly does what is requested of him, leaving his plans for divorce and taking Mary as his wife.

Little is said of Joseph in the gospels but what is said speaks volumes. Here we see the spiritual wisdom and obedience side of his character. He correctly discerns his dream is not the result of a bad goat stew but is a message from God Almighty. He then immediately acts on the message. 

Discernment and obedience, two virtues I could do with more of today.

Jesus, give me discernment to hear you and obedience to obey you today.
