‘Is it against the law’ he asked ‘to cure a man on the sabbath, or not?’ But they remained silent, so he took the man and cured him and sent him away.Lk.14:3,4
Jesus is in a house on the Sabbath for a meal with the leading Pharisees. He sees a man among them who is ill, possibly with heart disease. He answers his own question to the Pharisees about when best to cure by healing the man in front of them.
It seems any time is the right time for acting with compassion. There is no higher law than the law of love. Conversely, it is sinful to delay an act of love when the need is obvious. This is also true for simply doing the right thing. Jesus says it would even be right to haul an ox out of well on the Sabbath.
There's no procrastination when it comes to doing the right thing, the loving thing. Procrastination is a weakness in me, something for me to shake off , now...
Jesus, your timing is always perfect. Help me sync my timing with yours today.
Saint Philip Neri, please pray for me.
