It may be in the second watch he comes, or in the third, but happy those servants if he finds them ready.
Lk.12:38
Jesus promises two things. The master will return. Only the ready will be received by him.
So, how can I be ready for the master's return? Lots of pious calisthenics come to mind. I've distilled them down to one thing that will have me prepared for Jesus' return. Allowing myself to be loved.
I don't have to do good. I don't even have to be good. I just have to allow myself to be loved. When I know in my heart that I am loved, warts and all, then goodness, or preparedness in the context of today's Gospel, simply flows from me.
Jesus loves me, this I know,
for the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to him belong;
they are weak, but he is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.
